H. Upmann

Hermann Dietrich Upmann, a German banker, relocated to Havana in 1844 where he established a dual legacy as banker and cigar manufacturer. Though his banking enterprise concluded in the early 1920s, his eponymous cigar brand went from strength to strength, becoming the quintessential representation of elegant, light to medium-flavoured Havana cigars. 

The Exclusive importers of Habanos for the UK, Hunters & Frankau, have held the unbroken distribution of the brand since 1855 and even owned the brand, including the factory and global rights, between 1925 and 1937.

In recognition of its enduring popularity, in 2005, it became a Habanos Global Brand, joining Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Juieta, Partagas and Hoyo de Monterrey.
