Cohiba

Cohiba

Cohiba is Cuba’s flagship cigar brand. Originally created in 1966 for Fidel Castro, for him to smoke but also as gifts to visiting diplomats or heads of state. They were not realised commercially until 1982.

These cigars with a presidential lineage are still made using  tobaccos harvested from the finest plantations in Vuelta Abajo, and still undergo a unique triple fermentation process that brings a mature and rounded balance to the blend.

The name Cohiba is taken from the word used by the Taino Indians, the pre-Columbus indigenous people of Cuba, to describe the cigars they were seen smoking in 1492. Perhaps not definitely the first word for cigar in the world, but certainly the first Cuban word for cigar.

Cohiba's portfolio contains four distinctive Líneas; Línea Classica, Línea 1492, Línea Maduro 5 and Línea Behike.

All Cohibas are 'tripa larga, totalmente a mano'—long filler, totally handmade and use the finest leaves from Vuelta Abajo.
